what is freemasonry?
The Freemasons are one of the most well known and occupied secret fraternities of all time. Founded in 1717, the Masons based their society off of the beliefs and values of the stone masons who lived during the Middle Ages. The intent of the group is to build a strong community, of well characterized men, while using geometrical and proportioned methods.
Values and beliefs of the Masons have aided in the development of America; many of our presidents have been fellow Freemasons. the square, compass, and gThis symbol, the square and compass with the G inside, is one of the most identifiable Masonic symbols.
The G most commonly stands for The Great Architect of the Universe and Geometry. The square and compass are tools used by architects, and the Masons adapted them into their rituals and ceremonies. Duncan's Masonic Monitor of 1866 explains them as: "The square, to square our actions; The compasses, to circumscribe and keep us within bounds with all mankind" the great architect of the universeThe Freemasons believe in one supreme being, the Great Architect of the Universe. Everything the Masons do has a geometrical meaning, and some sort of geometrical significance. Just like an architect or stone mason, who plans out and builds blueprints and designs, the Masons believe in living life the same way.
